The best way to earn money online, in my humble opinion, is through eCommerce or affiliate marketing.

From the standpoint of starting an online business, if you don’t have a lot of money, then affiliate marketing is the way to go.

How Affiliate Marketing and Niche Websites Work:
Affiliate marketing is simply where a company pays you a commission for referring them a customer.
That’s it!
Almost every website uses affiliate marketing as well. Amazon Associates is Amazon’s affiliate program and it’s massive.
Most any product you can think of has an affiliate program that allows you to promote it for commissions.
All you need to do to promote a company or product is to start a website.
Why a Niche Website?
Any niche idea can be turned into an affiliate based website that can turn into a long term business.
As mentioned earlier, some can eventually turn into a passive income source.
For example, if you know baby related products you could have a niche site based on baby strollers, baby-clothes, baby car seats, etc..
You could create a niche website based on that interest.

If you are into exercising, you could have a site based on exercises for women, for Mom’s, exercises during pregnancy that are approved by doctors, or exercises to reshape your body after childbirth.

1). It takes a passion or a niche idea that you really love:
If you have a passion for something, that’s the first step.
Then, you’ve got to see if there are related products or services that you can sell online.

2). It takes time:
Just like any brick and mortar business, it’s going to take a good amount of your personal time. Most businesses can take up to 60 + hours a week when you first get started.
I tell most people who are interested in creating an online business that they need a minimum of 10 hours per week to get started.
You’ll benefit more if you can dedicate 30-40 hours/week, but 10 is the minimum requirement.

I don’t agree that men don’t write as well as women. I think both sexes have skill in many areas and writing is just one of them. I know many women who have a problem writing just one sentence that makes sense. Don’t you think that capabilities are individual talents and not really related to either sex?

I do think that talents are very unique and individualistic to the personal and not the sex. It just seemed that way to me from growing up with a mother who was very articulate in her communication and writing.
I wrote this post a while back and since then have met many excellent and poor male and female writers. The intention of this post was to inspire women that have good writing skills to take those skills and run your own online business.
Reason be, written content is still the best way to get your content ranked by Google. Sure videos are taking over the world, but Google still ranks and categorizes videos based off of mostly written content on social metrics that the video creates with users.

One thing you didn’t point out, or maybe I missed it, is that for many women an online business is a great way to make an income while being home with the kids.

I would highly recommend you get training to build an affiliate niche-based blog. You will avoid so many mistakes that I see so many blogs do. For example, putting affiliate links without any understanding of how many, where to place them, how to link them will actually cause your site to tank in search engine rankings.

Your statement – “a strong movement of women starting their business” is very true. The main reasons, I feel, that drive the motivation are that more women are becoming active provider for their family income while also wanting to be there for their growing children.
Home based business gives so much more flexibility and income potential as compared to corporate environments. I think social and health awareness has also shifted most women’s perspective of being successful in life. It certainly does for me.
Before, I wanted to climb the career ladder and be a superwoman. But the corporate world can be a harsh place and you get tired with things and people sometimes.
Now, I realized that I can still be a superwoman sitting on a chair, in front of my computer, happily working on the things that I like. That, for me, is a career worth changing.

Hello, Thanks Todd for this article as it really relates to stay at home moms. For myself, being able to stay home and being able to care for my child, instead of working out side of the home, makes it really nice to know that I can be there for my children wherever and whenever they need me.
Having your own business online, really makes it possible to be able to enjoy life & family, without the worry of the added cost to work outside of the home. like:
Transportation & fuel, Day Care cost, Baby sitting cost on top of day care cost if you don’t have a steady work schedule.
All of these are a constant worry that a mother has to worry about. Times have change more and more people in general are looking online to make ends meet, with the right training, it’s not that hard to become successful online…

It’s true, niche websites do work and can be fun and enjoyable to build them. To do this as a newcomer requires some good training is very important so that you set them up right from the start.

My first site back in 2010 was a joke. I just struggled endlessly to figure out how to do some of the most basic things. I put my third site up this summer for a local business I own using the support from Wealthy Affiliate, and it took me a total of a week to put up, about 30 hours total time including the content and photos.

I really like the article pointed toward stay at home women. I don’t know any that stay at home and just do nothing, but I’m sure there are plenty of them out there possibly struggling with creating an income if they are stuck at home for some reason or another.
And yes a niche website I can vouch for myself. Even though I’m not a woman. Last time I checked.

But I think for almost every home based business idea out there, one must also recognize the importance of having a web presence in order to create a successful business.
