What is GetUpside?
GetUpside is a cashback app that allows you to earn cashback on purchases at businesses such as gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, and others.
The GetUpside app is available on Google Play and the App Store. It claims to be partnered with 30,000+ businesses across the U.S.A. But is it worth using in the long-term?
Can earn a significant amount of cashback with GetUpside? or is a waste of time?
Let's find out.
Does GetUpside App Work?
Yes. GetUpside app does work. After a verification period, GetUpside will add the cashback to your GetUpside balance and you can withdraw it via PayPal or electronic gift cards. I was surprised when I found out the app has mostly positive reviews on their respective app stores.
Details on How GetUpside Works:
Before you start using GetUpside, there are some important details you need to know about.
Here's a short summary of the steps and process:
- Download the GetUpside app
- Fill in the necessary information (add your limited card info, etc.)
- Browse the map for a merchant near you
- Select a merchant that has a good offer and claim it
- Visit the location and buy what you need with a credit or debit card
- Open the GetUpside app, take a picture of the receipt (within 24 hours of purchase)
- Wait up to 10 days for verification.
- The cashback should be added to your GetUpside balance
Important: The GetUpside App is Only Available in the U.S.A.
Unfortunately, GetUpside is only available in the U.S.A, specifically; Washington, D.C, Maryland, and Virginia. The company is partnering with more businesses in other regions but currently all the offers are in the U.S.A. Unfortunately, it does not work worldwide, only in the United States.
While they do say it's only available in those three regions, there are some GetUpside partnered gas stations in almost every state. So if you're planning to do road trip, you could use GetUpside to earn some cashback on fuel.
To see if GetUpside is available in your area, you can use their locations map.
GetUpside Only Works with Debit & Credit Card Purchases
The cashback offers only work with partnered businesses and debit or credit card purchases. The receipts are double checked against the business' records and the cards you added to your account.
GetUpside requires you to add limited credit or debit card information to your account to verify the receipts you made with those cards. It does not need your entire card number, only the digits that appear on the receipts, which is either the first six or last four. GetUpside does not charge your cards.
How Much Cashback Can You Earn?
GetUpside's main incentive for users is cashback. It offers cashback on grocery stores and gas stations. The exact amount will depend on what the business agrees to, but the maximum is 35% for groceries and 25 cents per gallon at gas stations.
Gas Stations (up to 25 Cents/Gallon)
Gas stations are the most popular merchants on the GetUpside platform. While the platform claims you can save up to 25 cents a gallon, most gas stations don't offer that much. Most gas stations offer 2 to 4.5 cents in cashback for every gallon. You can use the map to find a gas station near you that has the best deal.
Restaurants (Up to 40%)
Restaurants aren't as common on GetUpside, but even some of the chain fast food restaurants offer good cashback deals. These are marked as purple on the map. For example, I found one Burger King that offers 39% cashback. I even found a Wendy's offering 41% cashback!
Grocery Stores (up to 15%):
Grocery and convenient stores are rare, I didn't find any while browsing many different states on the map.
When Can You Withdraw Funds?
The good news is you can withdraw your cashback earnings as soon as you earn $1 or more. It's recommended to only withdraw your funds when you have over $15 because there is a $1 processing fee for amounts under $15. You can request funds via PayPal, bank transfer, or one of the many gift cards. It takes between 24 - 48 hours to process your request.

How Does GetUpside Make Money?
When it comes to these free apps, it can be unclear how the company makes any money. Most people will assume they sell your user data but that's not the case.
GetUpside makes money by partnering with businesses. The businesses benefit from the GetUpside platform because it drives new customers to their stores.
According to a GetUpside case study, the merchant only shares profit on the amount that is above and beyond what the merchant would have been earning without GetUpside.GetUpside also creates personalized offers for users on their platform to buy more from merchants.
My Opinion on GetUpside:
GetUpside does work and you can earn some decent cashback. The problem is there aren't that many merchants available, and some areas don't have any merchants at all. It seems like most of the merchants are clustered in specific cities in the U.S.A.
If there are lots of merchants in your area, it's worth it to earn some free money. But if you have to drive for hours to claim an offer to save couple of cents per gallon at a gas station, it's probably not worth it.
It depends on your location and how many partnered merchants are in your area. I suggest checking the map and zoom in on your area to see what's available before you create an account.
For the most part, the app does work as promised, and lots of people do receive the cashback they were promised. Another concern is their customer support doesn't seem to be very active. Now you know the answer to does GetUpside work.
Instead of pinching pennies are worrying about cashback offers, why not learn how to build your own business? It's a lot easier than you think, but you need to follow a proven system, and follow the steps.
