How You Can Make Money on Fiverr.com?
How can you make money on fiverr?
This is something I’m asked all the time, when I tell people I’m a freelance writer and most of my business comes from fiverr.
After all, it seems like $5 is a terribly small amount of money, so it might seem unusual to make a living a five-spot at a time.
It’s definitely possible, though, since fiverr allows more experienced sellers to charge more for a bit more work.
Read on to get the ins and outs of fiverr.

How Does Fiverr Work?
After you set up your account on fiverr, you set up your offerings, called gigs.
This is the least amount of work you’re willing to do for $5.
(Well, really, for $4, because fiverr takes a hefty 20% of your earnings)
Fiverr has a huge marketplace, though, so it’s a great place to find work.
As you improve your reputation on fiverr, you’ll advance in levels and be able to offer Gig Multiples and Gig Extras.
With Gig Multiples, people can order your gig multiple times.
This is great for people who want more than one of whatever service or product you’re offering.
With Gig Extras, you can ask for more money for more work.
For example, I run a gig called “I will write a 500 word blog article for you.”
That gig costs $5, but I have Gig Extras for longer blog posts; a Gig Extra to write 1,000 words worth of blog posts for an extra $5, 2,000 words for $10 extra, and so on and so forth.
This is where you really start to make money, from the extras.
What Type of Professional is Fiverr Suited For?
Truth be told, fiverr is suitable for anybody who is willing to do a small amount of work for $5.
It’s also great for people who want to work from home, doing typing jobs or other simple tasks.
The way I plan my gigs out is determining how much I want to earn in an hour, and then dividing that down into what I can do in 15 minutes.
I bill myself out at a minimum of $20 an hour, and can writea 500-word blog post in less than 15 minutes.
Therefore, $5 for 500 words is reasonable to me.
There are all sorts of gigs on fiverr, from all sorts of professionals.
You’ll find graphics designers, voice-over actors, writers, and personal coaches.
This particular marketplace is a great way to find business, develop a business relationship, and build up your earnings.
Tips to Make Fiverr Work for You:
When you get started and start getting orders in, it is important to be well organized and make sure you complete orders on time and with the highest quality.
My repeat customers are the ones that really pay the bills, and you won’t get repeat customers without timely and quality work.
I make heavy use of Getting Things Done apps to keep track of my orders.
In my particular example, I run a Mac app called OmniFocus, and use a web service called If This Then That (iftt.com) to automatically import my orders into OmniFocus when they come in.
All I have to do from there is set my due dates, categorize things, and I’m good to go.
Organization is the key to success on fiverr.
Another key to making the most out of fiverr is knowing when to withdraw your money.
No matter what payment method you choose, PayPal or Payoneer, you’re going to pay fees on those withdrawals.
Make sure you withdraw as much as you can at a time, to minimize how much you lose to those fees.
You should also pay close attention to your customer reviews.
If customers aren’t giving you good reviews, evaluate your work and see where you can improve.
And one bad review can damage your entire business.
Customer reviews, eventually, make a huge difference between getting an order or not, so you want to make sure you always get good reviews.
Pros of Working with Fiverr:
There are a number of benefits to working with fiverr.
There are also a number of drawbacks, so you have to decide whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. The pros to working with fiverr are:
- Fiverr is a large, well-known marketplace of buyers looking for all sorts of services and products.
- It’s very easy to get started.
- Once you’ve established yourself, the orders have a tendency to pour in, if you’re good at what you do.
Cons of Working with Fiverr:
As with anything, there are some drawbacks. The cons to working with fiverr are:
- fiverr takes 20% of your earnings, which is a hefty chunk compared with other freelance sites.
- The only methods of payment are PayPal or a special Payoneer MasterCard, both of which charge you a 3% fee.
- There is no real way to fight charge-backs or disputes; if fiverr customer service decides to cancel your order after you’ve delivered, you don’t have any real recourse to get that money back.
- There aren’t any means to download tax reports or earnings summaries, at least not yet.

Personal Experience Working with Fiverr:
As a freelance writer and editor, I’ve made thousands of dollars from fiverr.
It isn’t a great living, but it is a phenomenal supplement to some of my other freelance venues.
Once you get your system down and get yourself organized enough to keep up with the influx of orders, fiverr can be a great way to make some side cash.
Can You Really Write? If So, Forget Fiverr:
If you truly have the gift to write then why waste your time working gigs on Fiverr.
Instead you can take your skills to the next level and create your own kick-ass online business.
Sure you can make a little money with Fiverr, but how would you like to build an online business that can turn into a passive income source?
I’m not the best writer, but with a little education and determination, I’ve been able to build a consistent 1,000+ new visitors to this site per day.
I make money everyday online ranging from $90/day to $600/day.
Not too shabby for an guy who struggles to write.
I’ve Never Understood Why…
People who have the natural ability to write, don’t start their own affiliate marketing based niche website.
Sure it takes some time to build a niche blog, but if you can write with ease, learn how to optimize your posts, then you can create a website that works for you.
One question I get asked a lot is, how long does it take to make money online? Read this article to find out.
Time and time again, websites that produce quality content that help a niche audience rank fast in search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
Add in affiliate marketing and advertising and you’ve got a combo for success.

Hello,
Am a Nigerian and I wish to join Fiverr as a writer, although I do not have much writing experience. I need an advice on how to get started on this.
Thanks,
Victory.
Hi Vicotry,
You just need to follow the advice in this article and get signed up to start the process. Then you have to build up your profile and start getting rating and so forth. Just read the post again and you’ll have all the info you need.
Cheers,
Todd
Any advice for someone whose content is sometimes violent to get ads on their site? AdSense refused me due to ToS violations, and that is the only possibility.
Unless you get a ton of traffic or you rank for expensive keywords, adsenes doesn’t make much money.
I’d focus more on affiliate products related to your niche or specific advertisers within your niche that you could pitch them something to buy ad space on your side bar area, footer, etc.
Adsense and Google Adwords can be a bit picky with some of their stuff.
Hope that helps
I just signed up with this outfit via a friend’s request. I did not start out at $5.00 as I offer nothing at that price. My minimum is $500.00 as I am a LLC company and been doing this for 40 years. I will give it a few months to see how it goes. Yes, I could use extra income as anyone can and I have a good local client base. I am semi-retired so my company is basically a income supplement business. I was a bit confused on how this outfit works and we basically require a 50% deposit on any work we do so I will probably cancel me account if we can’t get some sort of guarantee. from clients. We just don’t work that way. Been burnt once and never again.
Hey Roy,
This is the way I got my post about How Fiverr Works on the first page of Google.
Hope this helps,

Wonderful explanation on how Fiverr works. Very interested on how I can be a Freelance writer. Please help.
Hey Rosar,
Thanks for your feedback on Fiverr. There’s a ton of platforms and techniques you can use. We’ve created some helpful posts on these topics and here’s two that come to mind..
Writing Jobs Online That Pay
How to Sell Books on Amazon
But honestly, if you’ve got the skills of a freelance writer, then you just build your own niche website. Look at this post here, I paid a Fiverr writer to write this post and I edited it and did the SEO.
For 10 dollars I got a post that I didn’t have to write but got ranked and it has been bringing over 500 new visitors naturally through search engines like Google for a couple years now. It’s on the first page of Google, so it consistently gets a good supply of traffic.
I’ve done this with my own writing and my point is, that if you can learn a few other skills, you can create content that creates residual or passive income for you.
You just need to learn what I learned, it wasn’t that hard and anyone can do it. You just need the right education. For that, I recommend Wealthy Affiliate’s Training Platform.
Hit the link and check out my review, you might have an amazing career as a Freelance writer or an amazing online business that works for you time and time again for that single piece of work you did for it.
Hope that makes sense,
Todd
Hi,
This blog is really awesome because since a long time i had been thinking about joining fiverr but i had an doubt.
After I came across this article everything thing is sorted out. Now i have a clear decision about joining Fiverr or not.
Thank you for the article
Hi Todd, Thanks for this article. Great post.
I’m a new freelancer at fiver. I just realized that Fiverr took a % of my first tip… Is this a common practice @ Fiverr?
Thanks
Hi Gascone,
Yeah, if you look back to this post, you’ll see that Fiverr takes a cut of every gig that you do.
That’s why being efficient and good with your gigs is critical if you’re trying to make substancial money from Fiverr.
If you’ve got the desire to make money online, I’d highly recommend starting your own online business. It takes a bit of time to get started, but it’s great once you have a site that produces more income than you’ll ever make with Fiverr on a daily basis.
Maybe you’d like to check out this post on.. How Long Does it Take to Make Money Online. In this post I break down the time frame as well as the approach.
Check it out, in a year from now you could be making $100/day, who knows. But you’ll never make much with Fiverr and you’re always trading your time for money.
An online business can eventually work for you creating a passive income source.
Cheers,
Todd
Great article about Fiverr. I personally like Fiverr because the time has saved me over the last two years by outsourcing digital services.
Quality is OK but for $5 bucks you can’t ask for more until I’ve found this new site pretty much similar like fiverr but they minimum order starts from $5. It always worth to give it a try.
Cheers!!!
Hi,
Great article but I truly had to laugh at the incorrect use of “too” – this is a pet hate of mine and to see it used incorrectly in an article from a guy who writes for a living, well….what can I say…..
Keep up the good work but beware of the grammar traps!
Thanks Mark, I’m usually not too bad about catching my typos. Thanks for the feedback.
I struggled to write and have now found it relaxing and relatively easily. Now I’m at the stage of management with this site and I outsource writing the majority of the time, but I always have the final edit and now this site makes full time income for around 5 – 10 hours of work per week. Pretty cool.
Other writers out there, take this concept and create your own niche based affiliate website. Want to know all that it takes, check out this post.
Cheers,
Todd
I was about to use fiverr to sell my writing skills and then I stumbled upon your article. I am sure I can use my writing skills on my own blog these summer vacations and gain more audience and maybe some direct clients as well.
OH Aisha, you’re music to my ears. You know how long I’ve been baffled by writers who don’t put up niche blogs/affiliate sites.
I think you should definitely do it and I think you shouldn’t make the mistake I’ve seen other bloggers do, and that’s just randomly write content that’s not based on keyword research. I’ve seen bloggers white hundreds of posts more than myself, but I get 1,000’s more people to my site for free because I took the initial time to get a solid education in internet marketing.
This is what Wealthy Affiliate teaches as well as search engine optimization and website development, so I’d highly encourage you to take a month or two of the training program to get a basic knowledge of how all this works.
Another great part of WA is their SiteRubix website builder. You can host up to 25 sites and 25 free sites as well as have access to their Community and commenting platform. The commenting platform is a huge time saver to help get fast rankings.
Check out some of the links and let me know if you have any questions or need any help.
Thanks,
Todd
Howdy,
First time visitor. Liking what I read. I am an author (novels) with two books out currently – third one being released in July. I obviously know how to write, but don’t blog. I have a website, too (of course).
I am researching ways to freelance on line to supplement my income by using my writing abilities, and fiverr seems to be the best bet currently. A lot of my author colleagues use services on fiverr to get covers done, etc.
My thoughts are so rudimentary at this point that I can’t even formulate a question for you…yet. 🙂 Just wanted to say hello and that I’ll be back many times, I’m sure.
Blessings,
Cari
Hi Cari,
Great to meet you and I checked out your site. It looks nice and clean and your book ideas are intriguing. As you may know my stance on freelance writers and their ability to write and produce quality content is such a great skill, that I find it baffling that they don’t create their own niche site/s and create an affiliate based blog.
My writing skills evolved and now I mostly do the editing and SEO and this site alone makes full time income. So I’d encourage you to try to do the same. If not, maybe you could write for us here at Learn To Grow Wealth Online.
Here’s a great story of a guy who didn’t have much writing experience, but he joined Wealthy Affiliate’s online business training program and after 6 months of taking classes, he was making pretty decent income, by his 11th month, he made over $4,300/mo and was on track to surpass this in December.
I think the story is inspirational, especially to writers, because with the write training on SEO, keyword research, etc., a good writer could be doing the same thing.
Here’s the story if you want to take a look, Colton’s Success Story.
Thanks so much for reaching out to me Cari, look forward to hearing from you again.
Cheers,
Todd

I know that many of you are already in there, but my comment would be beneficial for a new guy/girl who wants to join Fivver.
Cheers! Nice post.
Great tips to be a top seller in fiverr. I work with fiverr as an article writer. My expertise is in writing and I thank you very much for the helpful tips and great post.
You bet, happy to help. Learning how to use Fiverr can be a lot of fun to make a few extra bucks online. And with a good organization system, you can really make it count.
Still, if you’ve got the gift to write, I can’t think why you wouldn’t put together a niche site, use affiliate marketing strategies, and build a long term online business that has the ability to work for you.
This post is a great example. It’s a 1,000 words, took a couple hours to write, then another hour to edit, add some photos and send out to social media.
It took a few months before it started ranking, and now for the past year or so it’s been ranking page one on Google and brings in over 600 visitors per month to my site.
If you’re a writer, make the best out of your abilities. All you need is a solid education to learn a little SEO and you’ll make a much more lucrative career writing for your own blog than working with Fiverr.
For those that want to check out the #1 online training program, Wealthy Affiliate, click the link and join for free, then see if it’s right for you.

Greetings! Very helpful advice with how to work with Fiverr!
It is the little changes which will make the most significant changes for freelancers to be successful using Fiverr.
Many thanks for sharing!
Hi Todd. Great website and lovely writing. I don’t have any experience in writing for money although I love writing. Please tell me what kind of things are people looking for. I saw some people posting that they write blog posts. But I don’t know what they write about. Is it informative things, or funny things or about life or philosophical.
Hi there,
Thanks for your question. You can blog about anything really. I know a traveler I met down in Colombia that started a poetry blog (in French) and he had almost a million people follow his blog.
What I write about here on this site is how people can make real money online. I also review online money making programs and provide several resources for keyword research, ranking, SEO, building websites, affiliate marketing, and eCommerce because that’s my niche.
I would pick a theme that you are interested in. Maybe it’s a passion or special skill that you have. Maybe something that you do or know that most people don’t know about.
Then all you have to do is set up a website, get the foundation established, and start blogging. If you want to make money from your website, I would advise you to take the educational program offered by Wealthy Affiliate.
They will teach you how to conduct keyword research based on your niche to allow you to easily rank in search engines like Google. They will also teach you how to make money off your blog posts. It’s a great way to make a living. As a matter of fact, I wrote two posts on this topic.
Here’s the first: HOW TO MAKE MONEY BLOGGING FOR BEGINNERS
And more recently: HOW TO MAKE A MONEY BLOG
Both of these should help you get a good start. If you need help on picking a niche or theme, check out this post: How To Find a Niche
I really enjoy this write up. A friend told me about this Fiverr of a thing. Thanks.
But I want to seek for help from you.
Please and please, could you take someone on tutorials on this internet business stuff? I’m one of those jobless guys who is looking for a legitimate things to do to survive. I’m a total newbie. No previous experience at all about internet business but I’m very very much ready to work hard ,to give in my best. Pls!
Thanks.
Waiting for your feedback.
Hi Abil,
You already have a few of the most important ingredients to make online business happen. And that is your desire and work ethic. That’s half the battle.
I think what you’re looking for is the other piece of the puzzle, some support, education and guidance. Just like I was. And the coolest thing about it is, is that you’ve found it just like I did.
Stumbling onto the Wealthy Training Center feels almost like fate.
Looking for a program that will walk you through step by step on how to build your online business feels like a Godsend, and WA steps in and provides everything you need from; daily support from the owners and community, guidance to put up a site correctly from the start, structured video courses, and a constant supply of educational content to create real results in your online business.
Help when you need it just like any good educational program should provide.
Click here to sign up for your Free Account, no credit card needed. Then explore the forum, search trainings and tutorials, or get started with the first training course. I’ll send you a message on the steps I took to get started.
Send me a like or little reply so I know you got there OK. You’ve been looking Abil for the right kind of help and you’ve found it. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you can create.
Thanks for reaching out,
Todd
Hey Todd. Fantastic post about making money on Fiverr. I’m surprised that you can bang out a 500 word article in 15 minutes. You must be quite good with coming up with story angles quickly.
I recently wrote a guide advising how people can start their copy writing business with Fiverr.
It is amazing to see the earning potential among many entrepreneurs within the Fiverr community. The point you made about the 20% cut that they take is true. Painful, but you need to pay it to use the service.
Thank you again for a great post.
You bet Dave, thanks for the feedback.
Cheers,
Todd
hello there,
This Is an extremely good post on how does Fiverr work. I personally have worked for Fiverr as a writer and they are a solid company to work for.
Plus Fiverr has some fun gigs for anyone who’s looking to make a little extra money online, some are a bit goofy, but fun nonetheless. Thanks for info and I appreciate the perspective of Fiverr from a writer’s point of view.
Thanks,
Ron
You bet Ron,
Fiverr is a solid company and does have a lot of valuable and economical services. One thing that has always baffled me is if you are a good writer, why wouldn’t you start your own affiliate based blog.
That way you can get paid as an affiliate based on a niche that you are passionate about that can turn into a business that works on auto-pilot and can generate passive income over time.
Here’s a post I wrote about how to create a blog for beginners if you’re interested in reading about the process. And here’s another post about how to create a free business website.
Check them out if you’re interested and thanks for your feedback on this post, How Does Fiverr Work.
Cheers,
Todd
Hi Todd,
I cannot get away from your website, you have so many great posts loaded with helpful information for your visitors? I’m a writer and have worked at Fiverr and Odesk in the past.
And although it’s a nice way to make money online, I’d like to take my skills to the next level and try affiliate marketing. I also have read about your #1 Recommended product, Wealthy Affiliate, and wanted to ask you why you rank them so much high over Clickbank University, Bring The Fresh, and Chris Farrell Membership Site.
Thanks for you help and all your great articles,
Sam
Hi Sam,
Thanks you so much for your kind words about my website and for leaving me a comment here on this post, How Does Fiverr Work – I really appreciate your support.
I added a few links to your post to provide more information on the various topics that you are interested in so you can check them out at a later date.
To answer your question, all these programs: Bring the Fresh, Chris Farrell’s Program, CB University are all great. CB University is really better for those that want to learn how to create their own digital products, they have an affiliate marketing program as well, but it doesn’t compare to Bring the Fresh or Wealthy Affiliate.
The Wealthy Affiliate training center is hands down, the number one place to learn affiliate marketing and how to develop a website, especially for beginners. It’s not without it’s faults, but it has the most extensive training and support that I have seen out of all the internet marketing programs I have reviewed over the last year.
It’s newbie friendly, spam free, and the support from the Community and owners themselves are incredible.
If you want to take your skills as a writer and put up an affiliate marketing business, WA is the winner.
Thanks for your feedback on my site and have a great Sunday,
Todd
Hi Todd,
You have an incredible website, amazing construction! You make you blog appearance straightforward and it’s easy to navigate. I’m just curious as a writer who is considering affiliate marketing, how did you learn how to put this site, Learn To Grow Wealth Online, together.
Any help you can offer would be much appreciated,
Em
Hi Em,
Thanks for your kind comments, I really appreciate your feedback on my site. I learned how to create this site, write website content, and do product reviews from the online training center called Wealthy Affiliate.
They’re my top ranked program for a reason and you can check them out for free. Click here for more information on the number one online training program available in today’s market and if you’re really interested in building websites that make money, there’s no time like the present.
I would recommend that you pick a niche that you are passionate about and/or interested in learning more about. Check out this post, it’s about how to find a niche to get a better idea of what I mean.
Thanks,
Todd
Informative post about fiverr. Best post for fiverr beginners. Thanks For sharing.
Hi Tanisha,
You’re quite welcome and happy to help out. Fiverr is a great source for so many online tasks and funny/interesting gigs.
Thanks for your feedback and I’m glad you got the skinny on how Fiverr works.
Cheers,
Todd
Hi Todd, Great article! I have been thinking about using the services offered at Fiverr but I wasn’t really positive on all the in’s and out’s. This article definitely brought light to the subject for me. As I always I appreciate the great information! Thank you!
You’re welcome Christina. I think fiverr is a better source for buyers of fiver gigs than for the sellers based on this article. For example, a buyer can get a quality SEO article of 1,000 words that is of good quality for $10, that can really help increase the owner’s website rankings and add a ton of traffic if you have a good writer writing 1-2 posts per week on top of what the site’s primary contributor is writing. As long as it’s quality content they’re putting out there.
But for the fiverr seller, that seems like a lot of work to me for $10. If your’e a writer on fiverr and you can put out 2,000 words of quality content in 45 minutes, you would be better off to invest in yourself and create an online business. That’s my thoughts on the subject.
Thanks,
Todd
I could really use some extra $5 (or more) using my writing skills, but after reading your review, I might consider twice. I tend to research very deeply on what I write and sometimes, it could take up to 3 days before I can produce anything decent to read and that could overshoot the dateline given by customers. Let me think about it. Thanks for the review.
Yeah Cathy, it’s an outlet to make extra cash online if you have the organizational skills and can write quickly. But if you are really good at writing content, I would look at the “bigger picture” here because if you can create quality content, you would be much better off in the long run creating your own affiliate or niche website. Create a business for yourself, not another job is my motto.
Thanks,
Todd
Great article, Todd! I have used Fiverr many times as a customer and had some really good success as a buyer. I have never really explored the possibility of being a service provider on Fiver, but your article has me rethinking that. I have some aggressive financial goals I have set for myself, and it may be able to help me reach them faster. I think your advice about having systems in place to stay organized is spot on. Without the automation component for as much of your Fiverr gigs as possible, you can end up making very little money per hour.
Thanks for the great information!
Christy
Hi Christy,
Fiverr provides a great outlet for some extra income. I think if you have the gift of gab and can express your ideas, you can be a good online writer.
If you have these skills, it makes a lot more sense to me to create your own online niche website. Something you’re passionate about is much more rewarding, and has so much more income potential than Fiverr gigs. Plus the benefits of working online are tremendous.
Thanks,
Todd
