AWOL Academy Review
Product Name: AWOL Academy
Product Type: Affiliate Marketing Training Program
Creator: Kameron George and Keala Kanae
Price: $99 + Multiple and Expensive Up-Sells.
Best For: New marketers with deep pockets and not afraid to spend their money.
Rating: 70/100
Summary: AWOL Academy is a decent program that will train you to build sales funnels, an email list, and then market affiliate products to that list.
This is great, but it’s not the complete story. AWOL doesn’t teach you how to build a website which is paramount to building a long term online income (passive income).
Instead of building individual sales funnels, you want to build a website that’s a massive funnel, AWOL doesn’t do this. The other issue with AWOL Academy is that it’s really expensive for the training you get.

What is AWOL Academy?
The company was founded by Kameron George and Keala Kanae, and the idea is to provide people with an online business education.
There are also a couple of interesting ways you can earn money from AWOL Academy, which we’ll discuss later on in this review.
In short, the academy takes you through subjects such as:
- Building Lead Pages
- Acquiring traffic
- Building a list
- Email-marketing
- and more.
The training does not focus on how to build a site and use it as a platform to advertise your offers.
Rather, the AWOL training is more about email marketing and building sales funnels with paid traffic, something that you need a reasonable investment to do.
The AWOL Products:
The products are divided into different “levels” the first of which is called 101 Coaching and it costs $99.
The 101 Coaching is the entry point and there are a couple of things I liked about it.
For starters, there’s a simple questionnaire you can fill it which the coaches will use to provide you with custom-training material for your needs.
This also includes a free 1-on-1 call with an experienced internet marketing mentor.
Here are the other products:
- Inbox Academy – $297
- Conversion Academy – $997
- Traffic Academy – $997
- Masters Academy – $3497
As you can see, these are high ticket products.
One more thing to keep in mind is you will have to buy additional tools, as nothing but the training material is included in the products.
So if you’re on a really tight budget and looking to make fast money, this probably isn’t the right choice for you.
The training delivers information via video modules and one-on-one calls.

What I Liked about AWOL Academy:
Having said that, there are some things I liked about the AWOL Academy.
For one, the is not full of a bunch of hype and false promises, unlike other internet marketing training courses.
They make it clear from the start that you’re not going to make billions of dollars.
Actually, they don’t even give any predicted earnings at all.
Secondly, the training is quite in-depth. You can learn a lot about building funnels and driving traffic to them.
On the other hand, one could argue that most of this information is already online, for free, waiting to be found.
But AWOL Academy is still a nice little package, and it does have decent value.
Third, the affiliate program has a high commission rate.
It’s one of the main reasons why it’s difficult to find a negative review of this product online (because everyone is promoting it as an affiliate).
One more thing that I noticed is these are all one-time payments, not monthly fees, which is nice.
Is AWOL Academy a Scam?
Though I do think the AWOL Academy is – in general – a decent course, there are a few things I disliked about the products.
For one, as we mentioned earlier, the products are quite expensive, and there are a lot of additional costs that are not mentioned in the sales pages.
For example, they’ll recommend building a sales funnel, but you’ll also need to buy a Lead Page membership and an auto-responder, and have money set aside for Facebook traffic.
Add these additional costs to the price of the product and you have quite a bit of money to fork over.
In short, the AWOL Academy is for people who have a bigger budget.
Personally, I think the products are a bit too expensive for what they offer.
I mean, if you want to learn how to build a sales funnel, all you have to do is type that into Google and go through the results.
Building a sales funnel isn’t that complicated.
I also noticed a lot of affiliates for AWOL Academy will use the AWOL Academy training to promote the product.
So you’ll come across these ads on Facebook or wherever that all lead back to AWOL Academy.
I don’t think it’s worth spending $997 just to learn how to build a simple funnel.
I think the prices are a bit ridiculous.
The AWOL Academy Business Opportunity:
The affiliate program is the main reason people join AWOL Academy. It offers a pretty nice commission rate, and the products are high-ticket, so it can lead to some nice commissions.
The AWOL Academy offers a 30% commission rate on all products but affiliates need to pay at least $35/month to join.
So if you sell a $997 course, that’s a $299 commission for you. Not too bad for one sale.
There’s also the possibility to earn 3% of your direct referral’s earnings.
It’s similar to a multi-level marketing system but it only goes one level deep which is not too bad.
Conclusion on AWOL Academy:
So is AWOL Academy a scam? This is what I think…
To conclude, the AWOL Academy is an expensive course, but it does contain decent value.
If you do buy the program, I’m sure you’ll learn a lot about how to build a sales funnel and all that.
The problem is it doesn’t really teach you how to build a website (which is ideal for long-term business) but rather how to build funnels, over and over.
Building a long term successful online business via a website is like building a massive system of funnels.
The only difference is that as your content ranks naturally on a website, you can create a passive source of income.
With the free traffic from organic rankings, the site becomes the funnel and the end result is the same – online sales.
In general though, I think the AWOL Academy is not bad.
It’s just really expensive and you need to be prepared to spend a bunch of money before you sign-up!
If I was you, I would check out my favorite training center instead. You can learn everything there: affiliate marketing, email/pay per click marketing, build landing pages, etc.

Leave a comment if you have any opinions about the AWOL Academy training center!
AWOL Academy sounds like something the military have designed.
You have explained the program really well and I can see that there are a lot of things left out of their training.
The prices are somewhat prohibitive really, for a newcomer to the business.
I agree that Wealthy affiliate gives you a good grounding in many skills and also a lot of the technical support is there. I find building web-sites a challenge but if I had to deal with the technical problems, it would be over my head. So WA looks more attractive.
I guess that with AWOL, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I will get me a basic set of skills before embarking on this.
Awesome feedback on our AWOL Academy review HappyB.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the thorough review on AWOL Academy. I think I fall into the category of most people who don’t have the cash to fork over for those big ticket purchases so this one definitely isn’t for me. Maybe if I get good enough building profitable niche websites I’ll be able to invest into a program like this.
Let’s say I did have the money for this though. In that case would you recommend Awol Academy to a newbie like me (if funds are no concern)?
No Jon, the best value for an education, tools, and resources is a program called Wealthy Affiliate.
You should spend your first 3 – 6 months there going through the training. Once you get a good feel of SEO, building out the basics of your site, bring in traffic and generate online sales, then I’d encourage you to check out Thrive Architect.
This program has a membership that involves advanced training (Thrive University) and they have all the email optins, fast professional themes and all the squeeze/landing pages you’ll ever need to maximize your sales conversions
Best,
Todd
That is a lot of money just to learn how to build a sales funnel. There seems to be a lot of these programs around like Clickfunnel and BuilderAll – and they are being promoted like hot cakes. It is possible to convert sales without having to use them? Or do people eventually invest in one when they reach a substantial organic traffic? Thanks.
Thanks for your feedback on AWOL Academy. For me Cathy, I’ve been using Lead Pages (which functions just like Clickfunnel) for our funnels and they work great to opt people into your email marketing system.
I think some sort of landing page builder works really well in conjunction with an email marketing service like Aweber.
Best,
Todd
I have seen AWOL Academy online before but given the price I could not afford to join them.
Your review makes it clear that not only do you have the expense of joining the Academy you have many up sells involved which then eats into your bank account even further.
Add to this all the other expenses involved with marketing, websites, hosting, and advertising it is not realistic for someone like me.
Thanks for getting this information out there for people to understand how much it is really going to cost them to join this particular program (even as an Affiliate).
Very interesting post. I have never heard of AWOL Academy, and I thought I’ve researched all of them. But there are always new ones popping up. Very complete information about AWOL and what it has to offer. Have you been a member and have you made any money from it? Thanks, Deanna
