So you’re looking for an answer to the question, “Is It Works a scam?”.
In this article, we’ll do our best to get to the bottom of the mystery.
It Works is a health and wellness company which offers a few alternative medicine products as well as a business opportunity.
The business opportunity has been the subject of controversy in recent years and a lot of people believe it’s a scam, others say its not.
When you see all these reviews and comments contradicting each other, it can be quite overwhelming!
I’ll go out on a limb and say – right off the bat – that this company is not a scam.
Now before you grab your pitchforks, hear me out.
Just because this company is not a scam, it doesn’t mean I recommend it.
I do not recommend it, for reasons we’ll discuss in this review.

What is It Works?
It Works is a company that sells a wide range of health products, ranging from apparel to supplements.
They promise that you’ll be able to turn your lifestyle around with the help of their health products.
And their business opportunity offers you complete financial freedom.
One of their main products is called a “Wrap” which contains various oils and creams that are designed to promote weight loss.
You wrap the product around whichever body part you want to “Tone” and you should see results within 45 minutes.
The wraps are It Works most popular products, and the main products you’ll be promoting as an affiliate.
To be honest, I’m not sure how these wraps are more effective than making simple lifestyle changes, such as cutting out sugars from your diet and exercising regularly.
Most of the products do make a small difference but its temporary, and the fat will return after a couple minutes.
In fact, some people claim this small weight reduction is simply water weight, and it will return as soon as you eat a meal.
The effectiveness of the Is It Works products are debatable.
But I assume you’re more interested in the business opportunity than the products themselves.
It Works Business Opportunity: Complete Freedom?
It Works promises that their business opportunity will allow you to be completely free and live life on your own terms while also building life-long friendships.
Well, to put it bluntly, this opportunity is identical to every networking marketing business out there, even down the membership and point system.
Here’s how It Works works:
You pay a one-time fee of $99 to join which provides you with some samples and marketing material.
Then, there’s the optional choice to create a auto-shop or build a website (website is $20/month).
Auto-shops are products you buy every month – like a subscription.
The company recommends that you buy at least 80$ worth from the auto-shop for the first month.
You can buy more or less, and you can skip this option all together if you want.
To fully join the program you’ll need to complete on the following tasks:
- Purchase a Business Builder Kit
- Have at least 150 Volume
- Have at least 80 Volume/month on your auto-shipments.
So to be clear, after you pay the one-time fee you’ll still need to work to qualify for commissions.
When you make two sales you’ll qualify for the program and will be able to start earning commissions.
Then you can start building a team.
When you or someone in your team makes a sale, the team will be rewarded with Volume.
There are bonus cash rewards when you earn a certain amount of Volume in a given month.
To move up in ranks you need to maintain a team and then build another one, with a four team limit, or “Legs”.
This allows you to collect more residual commissions for your team.
In short, the idea is to recruit new people under you in your team and motivate everyone to sell as many products as possible.
Whenever a sale is made or a new person joins, Volume is added to your team.
The more Volume you earn the more you cash you can make.
The Fine Print: Will It Works Work For You?
Every online business has a fine print, a disclaimer for legal purposes.
It Works disclaimer is the compensation plan which hasn’t been updated for two years.
In the report you can see that 82% of all distributors are in the first level and earn an average of $54/month.
I believe this is why so many people are wondering is It Works a Scam.
7.8% of members are in the next level, Executive, and earn an average of $231/month.
Feel free to read the disclaimer yourself, click this link to check it out.
Of course, these are average earnings, some people earn more, some people earn less.
The amount you can earn depends entirely on your marketing skills.
But are these products easy to promote?
Most of the products are based of weight loss myths, and they’re quite expensive as well.
I’m not sure if there’s a high demand for these expensive products.
So to earn cash you’ll need to figure out how to make sales and recruit people, a challenge for most people.
I feel like the amount of effort this company requires to get started is really not worth the results.

Our Conclusion: Is It Works A Scam?
So is It Works a scam?
The answer is no.
But its not a recommended opportunity either.
Personally, I think if you build your own website and use it to promote your products or services and you can earn a lot more money online.
You can even promote other people’s products as an affiliate marketer or network marketer.
Additionally, if you want to lose weight, the absolute best way is to make lifestyle changes and commit to a low-calorie and exercise-rich life.
Even something as simple as cutting out sugar will make a massive difference.
I would avoid products that promise temporary solutions.
So what do I recommend?
I recommend learning how to build a simple online business through a niche of your choice.
With a website you can promote anything that you want and there’s no limit to what you can earn.
The more you work on it, the more you’ll earn.
And there’s no need to worry about complicated compensation plans.

Want to Know What Really Works to Make Great Money Online?
Thank you for putting these interesting information together of It Works. I like the product called “Wrap” which it says, contains various oils and creams designed for weight loss, but does it really work? People would be glad to find this information as weight loss continues to be a challenge for many people. The question for those that get into It Works is are they there for the products or for the opportunity.
I’d think for the money making part personally.
Thanks Joseph for your feedback o It Works. I’d tend to agree with you.
I have not heard of It Works but the idea of being able to lose weight simply by “wrapping yourself” already sounds hard to believe.
As for the business side of It Works, I think the price should be lower (at least below 50), especially with all the other stuff you gotta purchase because I feel there are better programs out there that cost less.
I do agree that if you can earn from this, it is not a scam but rather just not a good service.
Thanks for the feedback Arie on our It Works review. Cheers
Thanks Todd, I think I’ll pass on “It Works”. I think I would rather take a walk in the park everyday than try to wrap myself with a $90 oily thing paying $20 for the privilege of using their cookie cutter website. Get real! I like your idea of building an authority site and becoming the source of information.
Good points Nathan and I think that’s a much better plan. All one has to do is get educated and take action to make it happen.

According to your article, It Works is an MLM system and legit for their business. To lose weight is a dream for many people and It Works find a product and system to monetize from it. All they do is legal but seems not ethical, because as you mentioned in your article the best way is to change lifestyle and consume less sugar.
Many similar MLM systems in the market I know is legit but I say they are not ethical because the pricing of products is too high and unreasonable. If people want to make money online, I will consider your suggestion to start with building an authority website.
Amen George, preach on. That’s great feedback on It Works and mlm’s in general.
Thanks
Is the opportunity to make money with It Works a scam? Probably not. But are It Works products a scam? Well they sell what amounts to seaweed to people and tell them they’ll lose weight if they wrap it around their bodies. So ya, I’d say the products are a scam. No matter how good the business model is, can you really consider that it’s not a scam, if their products are a scam?
Thanks for your candid feedback Dustin on It Works, we always appreciate the feedback.
Cheers
Hey Todd,
This MLM product may not be a scam, but it seems very close. It seems one has to spend alot of money to even have a chance to earn any money back.
One of the things that I don’t like about MLM is you have to depend one on your own ability to recruit people, and then train them and then wait for them to produce.
What do you think of that? I agree with you it would make more sense to build a website and sell something that you like.
Most people, I believe, get into MLM because they are fooled about how much money they can make.
I think you’re right on Harrison, too much depending on others. Versus affiliate marketing, I depend only upon myself ultimately for my success.
Granted, you’ve got to learn the skills to be successful, but it’s a business model that makes a heck of a lot more sense to me than a MLM like It Works.
I think most get into MLM’s because they want a way to break free from the 9-5 and don’t have the knowledgeable or infrastructure to know how to create their own business.
The fact that it’s online is all the more beneficial.
For that reason, I created a simple eCourse that’s 100% Free to go through. I give away the same information I wish I had before I began my online business journey.
It’s the same system I use and 1,000’s of others are using to break free and live the life you want to. That is work online, create a full time 6 figure income, not have a boss/physical job, and be able to work from anywhere in the world.
Hope this helps,
Todd
Hi Todd,
Thanks for this review and I must say that I’m hearing about “It Works” for the first time. I don’t like anything to do with MLMs and I think this is one of them because I don’t like the idea of these ranks in order to earn a commission. From this review, I don’t think the products are worth that amount of money when you can do otherwise to cut down weight.
I’m glad you mention that this is not a scam and certainly I can see it’s not. I think the problem with this is that the products are not worth it and that this is not a good business opportunity. I’d like to ask, apart from your recommendation of affiliate marketing, what other business opportunity do you recommend online?
I’ve enjoyed reading your article.
Best wishes
Paul..
Cheers Paul, thanks for your feedback.
It Works makes me laugh. While the business opportunity may not be a scam, I don’t see how selling a plant to people and telling them they’ll lose weight if they wrap it around their body is anything but a scam.
I much prefer Wealthy Affiliate over any of these MLMs. I stumbled upon them a few weeks ago. I’ve been wanting to start a travel blog for several years but had no idea where to start. So when I saw a post about Wealthy Affiliate, the low cost to get all of this quality training was a no brainer.
I look forward to reading more of your posts.
Yeah Dustin, you’ve got it. You’re one of the smart ones.
The next step is to stay with the daily classes at WA and start watching (AT LEAST) one weekly webinar from Jay.
Every time I watch one it drastically improves my online business or inspires new ideas.
Stay the course and you’ll be amazed at what you create.
Thanks for this review, Todd. I have several friends and family selling It Works products and opportunities, and I always wondered how profitable it could be.
I have read that as MLM’s go, It Works is one of the better one. That said, if you join any MLM, you have to be able to sell… period. Almost all of them say, “Oh, you don’t have to be a good salesman. I’m certainly not. All I do is share this awesome opportunity, and everyone sees how great it is. It practically sells itself.” The truth is: Nothing sells itself.
I think if you are good at selling, this might be a good opportunity. If not, you might want to skip MLM’s altogether.
Great perspective and advice Andy, thanks for sharing.
It works is one of the more commonly known MLM scas out there that can not get any newcomers to internet marketing a substantial income from home.
When using the clean and profitable method of affiliate markeitng, you never have to pay to earn the right to sell somones else’s products, so you are already losing out by joing the It Works program.
I do not recommend this to anyone. You can easily spend your money better by joining a program like Wealthy Affililate.
Thanks for the info in this article. I cannot believe some of these companies that sell people a dream of running their own business but then the people that are earning money are hardly earning anything – especially after the fees etc they have to pay.
It Works is definitely not one I’ll be looking into further so thanks for the honest overview.
You bet Natalie, thanks for your feedback on our It Works Review, much appreciated.
You have provided a very interesting review of It Works. I had personally never heard of this particular product but I now know what I need to know based on your review.
I am impressed with the way you have presented this review. It is objective and I believe very truthful. You have not just called it a scam to then promote something else, you have presented the facts and therefore allow your readers to make an educated choice. Well done.
It is important that your reviews not just appear to be another sales page and you have certainly succeeded in providing readers with a very good review.
Thank you for your time and efforts to provide usable information.
You bet Frank, thanks for the feedback on our It Works review. Much appreciated.
Todd – excellent review. I personally have been searching for an online business opportunity forever, it seems like.
I have fallen victim to a lot of scams, and finally learned my lesson and have begun to do a lot more research before signing up for any program, so your review is a big help.
I read some of the other comments, and I agree with Diana – the compensation plan is a bit confusing! And I definitely am not impressed with the auto-shop program.
I agree with you – the best plan for dropping those extra pounds is to adjust your diet and start exercising! Thanks for this great review – I’ll not be joining It Works.
Julie
Thanks Julie, happy to help out.
My #1 Recommended Training Program has all you need to learn internet marketing and create your own online business.
They provide incredible support and training and it’s the same program I’m a member of after 3 years.
Best,
Todd
Okay so the qualifications and compensation program confused me!
LOL.
Why is it necessary to purchase so many products in order to qualify for the business opportunity? It just seems like upsells to me.
It Works should just combine all their products into one so that affiliates can start focusing on getting more affiliates to join as soon as possible.
I can see why you don’t recommend it.
Thanks for sharing,
Diana
Great insight Diana on It Works. I think their whole system just doesn’t work, unless you’re the one at the top.
Again, low quality, little value.
Cheers,
Todd
Hey Todd, You are right. We should always avoid temporary solution and spend hard earned money on these kind of expensive products. I won’t spend that money to be very honest.
I will work my own way to lose weight instead like hit the gym and jogging to burn out my own calories.
I think this not only creates a better lifestyle but also saves up more money for long term basis.
Thanks Maxx for your feedback on It Works. I like your ideas, practical and effective. Best, Todd
I agree with you 100%. The best way to get to a healthier you is through exercise and healthy eating amongst other lifestyle modifications.
As far as, ‘Is it Works’ business plan goes, it sounds like a MLM thing to me. I personally tried the MLM concept. I found the products expensive and the harder part was to get family and friends to join my down line.
I like your recommendation of affiliate marketing. I want something to do that does not involve recruiting people. Is it hard to learn this sort of business model?
Thanks for all the help
Regards
Roopesh
Hi Roopesh,
Thanks for your feedback on our It Works review.
Affiliate marketing is great and it doesn’t take long to understand the process.
It does takes some time to develop your site, your brand/niche, but well worth it.
I think the key question is do you have some time to invest in your education and building out your site.
Is it worth it? You better believe it, one of the best things I’ve done with my time and skill set.
I wrote a post to help others and this is what I wanted to know.. How Long Does It Take To Make Money Online.
Check out the post, I think this will help you.
