What is Remotasks?
Remotasks is a platform that pays members for completing micro-jobs and tasks. There are lots of tasks to work on, mostly regarding AI, such as comparing images, transcribing media (images, audio, videos, etc), annotate 3D data, categorize images, and much more.

Remotasks is a relatively new platform, founded in 2017 by Scale AI, a tech company with headquarters in San Francisco, US. The Remotasks platform can be accessed worldwide, and most of the workers are from the Philippines.
Is Remotasks a Scam?
To cut to the chase, Remotasks is not a scam. Remotasks pays members for their completed work every Thursday at 12:00 AM UTC via PayPal.
Requirements:
(For a full list of requirements, see this article)
The most important requirement is a computer with these minimum specs:
- 3 GHZ CPU
- 8 GB of RAM
- Intel HD 4400 or a Dedicated Graphics Card
- 80 GB of Hard Drive Space
- Internet Connection with 3 Mbp/s
Remotasks is free but they only allow you to sign-up with Facebook or Google, no email address. That's frustrating for people who don't want to use their personal email for these platforms. Another requirement is fluency in English and a PayPal account.
Does Remotasks Have an App?
No. Remotasks does not have an app but you can complete simple tasks in your mobile phone's web browser. Certain tasks, such as 3D annotation, work better on a computer and require specific software.
Remotasks Training:
Remotasks offers in-browser training that unlocks more task categories for you. The training will conclude with an exam that you need to pass in order to continue. You'll have to complete these exams to find more work, and they need to be manually scored.
Remotasks Boot Camp:
Another training that Remotasks offers is boot camps which were free 10-day in-person events but have recently changed to virtual events due to the pandemic.
The boot camps are free and will teach you how to complete the more complicated tasks as efficiently as possible. The training is 7 hours a day, live with a certified trainer. Another benefit to completing the Remotasks boot camps is your rank will automatically move to "Reviewer" which will unlock more tasks.
There's also a boot camp for "Super Reviewers" who are paid to review other member's tasks. They advertise that you can earn $100 to $250 a month once you complete the boot camp. For the time invested (7 hours a day for 10 days) that's not a very good deal. In countries like the Philippines, where the cost of living is lower, it could be worth it.

Types of Tasks at Remotasks:
The majority of your time working at Remotasks will revolve around completing simple tasks. These tasks are very easy to do and don't require much time. As you might expect, they don't pay that much for these tasks.
Remember: Tasks are manually reviewed, which is usually fast, but can take up to a week. Most tasks are reviewed on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Here are some of the most common tasks:
Classic Tasks (Low Pay)
These are the easiest tasks to work on, and they're available as soon as you register. Most of the tasks in this category are box annotations which is basically labeling images with text.
The pay varies depending on the task, but it's usually between $0.05 to $0.30 for each Classic Task. The upside is they're very easy to do and only take a few minutes. There are also lots available!
These reminded my of the tasks at RapidWorkers!
LiDAR Tasks (High Pay)
These are a little harder, and you need to pass some exams before you unlock this category. Remotasks provides training for these type of tasks. The pay also increases. What you do is basically draw boxes around objects, as close to the object as possible.

LiDAR tasks help improve the AI of self-driving cars because it makes it easier for the AI to detect objects. It can take a while to unlock this category because it requires training but the pay is much better. The tasks are pretty tedious.
LiDAR tasks can pay between $5 to $80 and most require a significant amount of time, such as 3-6 hours, depending on level of complexity. While these tasks pay good, they're also very tedious, and if you make a mistake, you won't be paid for your time.

Getting Paid:
The good news is Remotasks does not have a minimum pay-out and payments are processed with PayPal every Thursday. As soon as you have some earnings (a few cents or dollars) you can request a cash-out.
How Much Can You Earn Per Hour with Remotasks?
It depends on a number of factors, the average for Remotask workers is between $3 to $8 an hour. The amount can increase with your rank, skill level, and some other factors.
Is Remotasks Worth It?
To unlock the most potential at Remotasks you need to complete numerous exams and do the boot camp. Is it worth it, after all that? Honestly I don't think Remotasks is worth it. The reason for that is because it takes a lot of time to do the training, take exams and boot camps. Remotasks is not a scam, but it's not something I recommend.

Learn How to Earn Consistent Income:
Earning some side income is nice, but what if you could earn money day in a day out? One of the business models I recommend to earn consistent online income is an affiliate marketing website. It's simple: You build a website that promotes someone else's products and you earn a cut of the sales. Easy!

So now you know Remotasks is not a scam, but it's not something I recommend either. The reason is you need to sink a lot of time into it for very little returns. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
