Top 10 Stay At Home Jobs for Mom’s
Sell on eBay:
If you have extra clothes, nik-naks, or products in your home that you don’t want or use anymore, then clear out the clutter and make some money by using eBay’s auction style platform.
You can sell your old stuff on eBay much easier and make more money than selling it at a garage sell.
Plus you know the cool thing about places like eBay, there is no actual selling for you to do.
eBay does all the selling!
You just snap some nice photos of whatever you want to get ride of and put up a little description of your item and bomb, eBay does the rest..
Let the millions of daily eBay shoppers buy your old stuff.
It’s incredible how many people buy online.
And you’d be surprised at what kind of items people actually buy.
It’s like the old adage, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”
Many eBay sellers are also excellent bargain shoppers. They go to places like Home Depot or Walmart and buy heavily discounted items after the holidays or whenever they hear of big sales events.
They then turn around and sell those products on eBay for a profit.
Read our handy eBay sellers guide to learn how to sell on eBay with ease.
Just like eBay, Amazon offers a huge audience to sell your stuff.
Amazon, in my opinion, is better for selling new products. Sell used products on eBay and new products on Amazon.
From my experience, you’ll be able to sell the same product for a greater profit on Amazon.
Where to find new products?
Well, this can be the tricky part, but you can find discounted products from stores that are going out of business, online warehouses or after holiday sale discounts like mentioned above.
You could contact local merchants and offer to sell their products on Amazon as well.

Sell Your Crafts on Etsy:
If you can make your own crafts or clothes, then Etsy.com is a good platform to start out with.
Etsy is growing in popularity and people are really attracted to the idea of buying handmade products.
On Etsy, you can create a online store using their selling platform and create a theme to your store.
You’ll have millions of buyers who are already pre-qualified as buyers of handcraft goods.
If you’d like to take your business to the next level…
You could create your own online jewelry store and sell your own handmade jewelry or brand name jewelry through affiliate marketing programs.
Create a Gift Basket Company:
Gift baskets are very popular these days. They’re used in real estate transactions and with local businesses all the time.
Putting up a local website to market your gift basket business is extremely easy in today’s high tech world and will increase your business visibility and profits.
If you have a knack for putting together cute baskets with little presents and delicious edibles, you can make your baskets from home and sell them for double the profit.
Once you have a few basket designs (with your personally selected products), you can buy in bulk and drop your product cost drastically.
Many small local gift basket entrepreneurs report making between $25,000 to $50,000 per year from this stay-at-home business.
Host a Foreign Exchange Student:
If you have an extra room in your home and you live close to a local college or high school, you could have a great way to make some extra cash.
Just contact the college or high school and see if they have foreign exchange programs.
Most schools do have exchange programs and offer a decent monthly stipend for the host family.
You would have to provide a few meals a day, a nice home environment, and the basic necessities for a student (a private room, a desk, good lighting, and an internet connection), and you’d be good to go.
Professional Closet/Home Organizer:
If you’re like my mom who has an amazing ability to organize and arrange bedrooms and closets, you could have yourself a nice little niche business.
Now this job would take you out of your home at times, but you could start your business and manage it from your computer and cell phone.
You would just need to set up a local website, offer some examples of before and after photos of rooms or closets you’ve organized, and you could pick up local clients.
You’d also want to spread the word of your business through local organizations and market yourself to industries like real estate professionals.
Come to think about it, you could offer pre-made closet and garage organizers on your website and turn your business global by drop-shipping or affiliate marketing those products you recommend and use.
No inventory, just commissions. Not a bad move.
Run Your Own Home-Based Local Day Care:
If you love spending time with children and enjoy teaching and playing with them, you could pick and choose your clients at will.
Many working parents complain that it’s very difficult to find a good day care center.
You could find out how much local care centers charge for their service, then offer a more personalized service and charge the same or a bit more.
Tutor Student or Teach an Instrument at Home:
If you have been a teacher or excel in specific subjects, you could tutor local students. Same thing goes for playing an instrument.
You could set your hourly rate and put the word out about your services to local schools, churches, or other organizations you belong to and start making some extra cash.
You could also put up a website and advertise the subjects or instruments you teach. Thus keeping you as busy as you’d like to be.
Make Lunches and Sell Them at Local Businesses:
Whenever I worked at skilled nursing homes as an Occupational Therapist, I would find that many of the nursing homes would allow friends of co-workers to sell their lunch specialties to the employees.
In my case, the lady would come by each day with a basket of handmade burritos.
Delicious fat burritos for $4.00. She’d sell out in less than a half hour, man I miss her burritos.
You would just have to find a local business that would allow you to sell whatever specialty lunch item you wanted to make.
Tip: Offer a free lunch to the manager as you are making your sales pitch.
Create Your Own Affiliate Based Niche Website:
My personal favorite.
Why?
A niche website can make as much money as you like.
You can supplement your monthly income simply by writing about the things that you love.
Maybe you just want to be able to work at home. Maybe an extra $1,500/mo to pay the mortgage.
Or maybe you want to make 5 figures per month.
If that sounds like you, then niche sites and blogs can be goldmines.
How Do Niche Websites Make Money?
You can take a niche skill or passion and easily make a blog or website based on that niche.
Spend your spare time developing the site.
As your site develops, you can then begin to list affiliate products from places like Amazon, eBay, or Etsy that relate to your niche.
One lady I know took her love of painting and created a neat blog teaching her painting techniques and giving free classes online.
Then she monetized the blog by recommending products that she uses when creating her artwork and lists art supply ads on her site.
Within a few months she started seeing sales of $2,000/mo. A few months later as her traffic increased, her sales jumped up close to $4,000 dollars.
I know another lady who had problems finding earrings that didn’t irritate her skin.
She worked with a manufacturer to develop a specialty earring that she designed that doesn’t irritate her earlobes.
She then put up her earring niche website and began selling her jewelry little by little. Within 5 years she built her business up to making $130,000/year.
Create a Local Web Presence:
Not every stay-at-home mom job needs a website or blog, but almost every job listed above would greatly benefit from having one.
What’s even better is that it’s easy and fun to do nowadays!
It doesn’t take that much time to put up a nice website to attract a local market.
Niche websites that are marketed to a specific location, i.e. your town, neighborhood, or city are super easy to get ranked on the first page in Google, YouTube, etc..
When creating a website name that is based on your business and location as well as writing articles featuring your niche and services, you can rank on page one of Google without any problem.

Need Help Making Real Money Online?
I’ve been using Clixsense to make a little money online. I like the idea of creating a business that works in the long term.
Rather than trying to do small tasks or spam my Clixsense affiliate link online, I’d like to create an affiliate based business.

I enjoyed reading your Stay at Home Mom Jobs post. I am a mum and have always been interested in making money from the comfort of my own home.
You have some great ideas, never thought about creating a gift basket company or a home organiser! I am in the process of creating my own niche blog and I am enjoying it, see how it goes. I can already see the potential of creating something that pays you time and time again for work you do once.
Hi Jenny,
Thanks for your feedback on our post. We wanted to inspire moms who are looking to bring in more cash while working from home (for the most part).
I understand very well how the cost of time and money add up when your commuting to and from work. I wrote a post about it a while back if you want to read it called the Benefits of Working Online.
But you are absolutely on to it. It’s not hard. Pick a niche you like, write about it, learn to rank naturally in Google, and suggest helpful products. It’s really just basic communications that earn residual income 24/7.
I can’t believe how easy it is once you put in the initial work. It’s tough at first, but with the right training and attitude, anyone can make earning online a reality.
Best,
Todd

Great stuff, thanks,
Todd
Hi!
I really love your ideas for jobs for stay at home moms! I never thought about selling my clothes , I will definitely try to sell one of my dresses that I never worn ,will see if it works. I also like the first idea, which is selling on ebay. It can work really well if you do have your own website. Today many people buy online and I think that it is a really good business. Thx for the review !
You bet Tanya, if you need a step by step set of directions for selling on eBay, read our eBay guide.
But absolutely, learning to create your own niche based affiliate marketing website is my favorite way to make money from home. Once you get it producing income on a daily basis, you can really scale your campaigns to create more success.
You can take the online earnings and re-invest them back into your site. I’ve found this to be very helpful to create more success online.
Thanks again and have a great day,
Todd

Can this be done at Wealthy Affiliate?
Please let me know.
Thank you,

Hi Susan,
Good to hear you like my Stay at Home Mom Jobs post, there are a lot of moms who want to make good money from home, so it’s good to get your feedback as a stay at home mom who is making good money. I sold on Amazon and eBay with a good amount of success as well, I just didn’t like dealing with inventory and customer service – so instead I went with affiliate marketing and I’m much happier these days. But to each his own right.
To answer your question, Wealthy Affiliate would be perfect to help you build a cool website and then direct traffic to your Amazon products, you could also incorporate selling affiliate marketing products for extra commissions.

I love this post. You’ve listed some very practical and interesting ways stay at home Mom’s can make money online.
I am more interested in starting my own Blog. I have some friends that have been doing it for a couple of years and they make a couple extra thousand dollars a month doing it part time.
I read your review of Wealthy Affiliate and I’ve read numerous other reviews about their program, it seems to be the best educational program online to help Mom’s with this type of business.
Are they the best or are there other programs that you recommend.
Thanks
Hi Nicole,
Thanks for your compliment on my Top 10 Stay At Home Mom jobs article. It was fun to create – Plus my Mom inspired me with a few of the tasks.
As for your question. There is only a handful of products that I recommend that are honest programs. However, Wealthy Affiliate is easily the easiest program to follow and the most comprehensive. You litteraly have 1,000’s of hours of content in the form of Webinars, Tutorials, Classes, etc.
The other 2 programs that I like that come to mind are: Clickbank University and Chris Farrell Membership Site.
Clickbank Uni is more for people who want to create their own digital products, membership sites, eBooks, etc. There don’t have as complete training about starting affiliate marketing sites or blogs, WA is your winner for this.
Chris Farrell’s program is also decent, but is not the complete package and you’ll grow out of it quickly. This is why Wealthy Affiliate is my number one recommendation time and time again.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have other questions.
Todd
Hi Todd
What a truly comprehensive site you have here.
I used to sell all my unwanted items on eBay so much so that I started buying to sell and then I set up a shop on eBay. It was going really well but I moved country and did not restart as the country I moved is not as into eBay.
I have now turned to Affiliate Marketing and I am loving my journey of learning and meeting new people.
Again, really great site Todd.
Olive
Hi Olive,
I found it pretty fun to sell on eBay as well. I sold mostly on Amazon, but both were fun experiences. Although for me, I feel that affiliate marketing has been much more enjoyable. The long term business plan with an affiliate marketing website has so much more potential than selling on places like eBay or Amazon.
Thanks for stopping by and thank your for your kind feedback on my website. My goal is to make it a resource for all those that want to learn how to earn income online.
Best,
Todd
Many modern moms have a career before they started a family and I think it’s important for women to become a home provider and strive for a career as well – online or offline. The reason, in my opinion, is straightforward – a dynamic woman will raise dynamic children and certainly adding to the household income can relieve some financial burden to her husband.
Personally, I opt for niche blogging because it’s something that I can experiment now that I am working full time and gradually have the business take off when I become a full time mother.
Hi Cathy,
You’ve got the right mentality and foresight to see the advantages of creating a blogging business to help yourself, your husband and your future family. Very wise. I think that many Mom’s go the reverse direction and are put at a disadvantage. They have their family first and then try to help by starting a business that requires more time than they can give. But I still think that all of these 10 stay at home mom jobs can be applied at any stage in the game for a mother. It just takes a consistent action plan and the discipline to work each day at your business.
The greatest thing about a web based business is that it grows with time and as it grows and flourishes you then start to reap the rewards of passive income.
Anyways, great to hear from you and thanks for contributing your awesome perspective.
Wishing you all the success in the world,
Todd
Hi, Todd.
This is an excellent blog post on stay at home jobs for moms and I will be forwarding this to all my lady friends who stay at home with their little ones. I could actually do with a closet/home organizer myself because I’m so messy haha!
After reading through this post, starting a niche blog and online business is the best way forward for EVERYONE wanting to make real money online because there are so many amazing benefits and opens up a whole new world of opportunities. When people set up websites and learn to build them with the help of the Wealthy Affiliate community, their dreams of financial freedom becomes a reality.
Is this a Free website setup at Wealthy Affiliate?
Neil
Hi Neil,
Thanks for taking the time and commenting on my post and yes, I hear you on the closet organizer. Can be a pain at times. Agreed, setting up a website is by far the top business out of the top 10 stay at home mom jobs and offers that largest potential for a long term business. But even the other business can benefit from a local website and yes Wealthy Affiliate can help Mom’s set that up for free.
They have a great Starter Membership that is absolutely free. You get 2 free websites, free hosting and classes to show you how to set up your site. It’s too easy. You can tell any of your lady friends that they can get started right right away without spending a dime.
Thanks again Neil and nice to hear from you,
todd
Great list of stay at home jobs here. I like the idea of the “local” web presence. I know from experience that it’s easy to get ranked for local keywords. I had a site that ranked very well for a specific city within a specific industry. Unfortunately, I was inexperienced and didn’t really know what I had or how to market it. I’m thinking it may be time to give that business model another go.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for your comment and you are right that local based businesses are very easy to get ranked when you look at keyword competition and know how to analyse the information. I used Jaaxy to put up one of my sites and it was less than 2 days before I got number one rankings on Google. It just makes it easy when you add the location. But that also depends on your niche. If your niche is real estate for example, that might be a bit more tricky since every Realtor in a city or town has a web presence. But if your niche is daycare, or catering, or making gift baskets, that would be super easy. If you want to try Jaaxy for free you can check out my free keyword tool here for 30 free searches.
Thanks for coming by and have a great day,
Todd
This is a great list! It’s realistic and all of these options are real things that real people could actually do. I really appreciate that you give realistic earnings estimates for the online blog part. I think many people don’t realize it is a business you build over time and as you build it the income grows. Some people expect big money right away and that isn’t even remotely realistic. Great tips. I hadn’t thought about turning the closet organizer idea into a drop shipping business – good idea!
Thanks for helping us think outside the box!
Christy
Hi Christy,
Thanks so much for commenting on my stay-at-home mom jobs list. It was fun to think outside the box and come up some practical tips for moms who want to work for themselves on their own terms. Yeah, it’s funny with the closet organizer idea, you start investigating a niche and all sorts of ideas pop into your head.
You are totally right about peoples expectations when putting up online businesses. We all want to be immediately rewarded when we are working and it takes time like you said. I think it’s actually a natural process and forces a person to really focus on what they are passionate about. If you enjoy what you are doing and helping people out, the money comes.
The lady I know who makes over 130K with her niche earring business started out making 5K her first year, the second was around 24K, 3rd around 60K, and then it just continued to go up and up. That’s also the reality in most businesses, it takes time, dedication, passion, and commitment.
Have a great Friday and always good to hear from you.
Cheers,
Todd
Hi Todd, thanks for the tips I wouldn’t have thought of many of them by myself. I personally like affiliate marketing because of the low risk/high reward. Thanks for your tips and your traffic post is perfect btw.
Take care and much appreciated the info,
Dan
No worries Dan and thanks for the feedback on the site. The traffic post took a lot of time and work to figure out how to get ranked quickly, but I mostly used the training from Wealthy Affiliate and the keyword tool Jaaxy. Have a look at both these posts to increase your affiliate commissions and best of luck to you.
Todd
