Want to know what is PhonePayCheck and if it's safe to use? Can you really earn money from your phone or is it a scam? I took a look at PhonePayCheck to see what it's all about, and what I learned might surprise you. Continue reading to learn more.
What is PhonePayCheck?
PhonePayCheck is an Android app designed by Neocortix that pays you to let it use your phone's processor. The app runs in the background and only works when the phone is connected to WIFI and plugged into a charger. You don't need to do anything on your end.
So the idea sounds a little too good to be true. It runs in the background, doesn't use data, doesn't require permissions, and doesn't show ads. What's the catch?
My first thought was what does PhonePayCheck use this extra processing power for? After digging around online, I'm still not sure. The company claims the processing power is used to test websites, improve computation ability, and cloud services.
Here's a quote from their website:
After proving out the technology concepts in 2015, the company adopted a shared-economy business model in 2016, in which we would rent computer time on public phones, aggregate this compute capacity, and sell it via Neocortix Cloud Services. - Neocortix
The Neocortix Cloud Services are a bundle of services that offer mass load-testing and computation power taken from public phones from all over the planet. It's the client-side.

How PhonePayCheck Works:
The way PhonePayChecks works is very simple. First, make sure your device meets the minimum requirements.
Here are the minimum requirements:
- Linux Kernel >= 3.8
- Number of Cores >= 2
- Minimum Clock Frequency >= 1GHz
- RAM >= 768 MB
- Free Memory >= 1 GB
- Device Performance Rating >= 1
There are also three performance categories: gold, silver, and bronze. The devices that fall into the gold category earn the most. Generally, most phones and tablets released in the last few years should fall into the Gold section. You can take a look at their official device requirements and device list here (more on this later).
Another point is the app hasn't been updated since August 23, 2020. It's been a while!
When you install the app, you're placed on a waiting list. When you're approved, and sign-in with your Google account, the app will start running in the background. To receive payments, you'll need to enter your Tax ID and PayPal email.
In most cases, the app will run during the night, so you don't need to do anything on your end. It won't use your cellular data either, so you don't need to worry about data surcharges. And that sums it up, everything else happens in the background, and you earn a few cents here and there.
- Wi-Fi information
- Device and App History
- Charging and Battery Level (It only works when charging)
The problem is it can take a very long time to be approved. From the reviews, some people mentioned they've been waiting for over a year with no news or updates. It seems like the company has a limited number of positions. I wouldn't count on being approved.
Assuming you are approved...
How Much Can You Earn?
The amount you earn with PhonePayCheck depends on the hardware category of your phone, how long it runs, and the activity rate. If your phone is in the Gold category with an active rate, expect to earn $0.0274 an hour, and $0.000685 on standby rate.
As you can see, you shouldn't expect to earn much. The good news is you can add up to 5 phones on the same account. If you buy five or more Gold category phones, and have the app running non-stop every day, it could bring in some passive income. Most people can earn $10 or so a month with one device.
What you need to know is the app turns off once the battery is full, it only works when it's being charged. To prolong the time it takes to charge, you could disable fast-charging on your phone. So while the app says it can run all night, the truth is it can only run until your battery is fully charged, which usually doesn't take very long for most modern phones.
Does PhonePayCheck Pay?
PhonePayCheck pays via PayPal once your account has a balance of $10 or more. They don't support any other payment methods. Bear in mind, PayPal deducts a fee too.
What are People Saying?
For the most part, people aren't very happy PhonePayCheck. The main issue is the waiting list. People download the app and enter their information only to be added to a never ending waiting list. The reviews on the Google Play listing reflect that quite clearly, with the app rated at 2.6/5 with mostly negative reviews.
From what I could gather, the app opens to new members in batches every few months, but I imagine the waiting list is massive. It looks like they only activate new devices when theirs a demand from their cloud services. It's up to you if you want to wait or not, I personally think it's not worth it.
The Bottom Line:
PhonePayCheck sounds good on paper, but the reality is a bit different. Even if you're accepted, you only earn a few cents a day, maybe even less. I would much rather invest my time into something that really works to bring in passive income. One business model that has been very profitable for me is affiliate marketing.
I followed the strategies outlined in a course and I've been earning a steady four-figures a month. The course is called Wealthy Affiliate and it breaks down all that you need to know about building a successful affiliate marketing website from scratch. You can register for a free trial to test it out before making a commitment.
Hopefully now you know what is PhonePayCheck and you have a better idea of how to earn passive income online. What do you think? Have you tried this app? Leave a comment below.
