Why Not? Personally, after running a successful online business for years and having the ability to speak and translate Spanish, I’d never choose Freelance work over Online Business.

What is Rev.com?
Rev.com is basically a freelancer platform specifically for translator, transcribers, and captions.
Always liked the idea of being a freelancer? A master of your own fate, time, and money?
With Rev.com you can complete various tasks for cash, such as:
- Caption Videos
- Translate Documents
- Convert Audio to Text
The way it works is that you have a list of projects that you can choose from.
There are also slightly different rates, depending on the project.
But here is an idea of how the rates will look like:
- $0.40 to $ 0.65 per minute transcribing audio.
- Captioning work can also earn you $0.40 to $ 0.75 per minute
- Translating files can earn you $0.05 to $0.07 per word.
- Become a subtitler and translate video captions from English to a different language – This can earn you $5.00 to $ 8.00 per video minute.
Rev.com is similar to the popular Fiverr.com platform, but Fiverr offers a greater variety of online tasks, or gigs.
You can read more about Fiverr Gigs right here.
The Pros of Using Rev.com
Rev.com is attractive to people who like completing work on their own time.
The reason being is because once you pick up a project, there won’t be pressured to complete it quickly.
That means you can easily drop a project and pick it up whenever you want.
I know this sounds cliche, but this type of job would be ideal for people like single moms who have a hard time earning money and are taking care of family at the same time.
Apparently, it’s also pretty easy to get accepted and become a freelancer for Rev.com.
While that might sound great at first, there are some disadvantages to that.
We’ll talk about that in the next section.
Another perk to using Rev.com is that you really only need a computer that is connected to a reliable internet connection.
Well, I also recommend that you get a decent headset so you can hear audio loud and clear.
Finally, another positive to using this website is that it pays you on a regular basis (weekly) and through Paypal (safe and easy).
Rev.com Cons:
Here is a quick rundown on the downsides of Rev.com:
- Not enough work all the time.
- Reports of closing accounts without informing the user.
- Poor pay.
- Poor Quality Control.
Let’s break these trouble areas down:
Not Enough Work:
Let’s talk about the first issue with Rev.com that we’ve found reported by some users.
Some claim that although they can work whenever they want, there are sometimes not enough projects to go around.
If this is true, then I’m assuming this is because there are too few clients and too many freelancers.
Like I said before, having a low bar to getting accepted by this website does have its disadvantages.
That being said, this problem can turn some freelancers off, because it makes this form of income unreliable.
Furthermore, it might restrict when you can work, which defeats the purpose of a location independent job.
Closing of Accounts:
It’s reported that you can get “fired” from the website without any warnings or reasons.
It is speculated that if you don’t work often enough then your account will become suspended.
Another theory is that if users are receiving too high of a pay then their account will be terminated.
Note, that these are speculations and the information was retrieved from other reviewers. So take it with a grain of salt.
Poor Pay:
It seems that freelancers working on Rev.com complain quite a bit about the rates.
In fact, compared to jobs found on other freelancing websites such as Upwork, Fiverr, etc, the rates on Rev.com are usually much lower.
The trade off is that it might be harder to get a job on the other freelancing websites.
Poor Quality Control:
If you decide to use Rev.com to help work on one of your projects, then you should know that there have been some reports complaining about the quality.
Such reviews can be found here on the Better Business Bureau website.
Is Rev.com Legit or A Scam?
Our research hasn’t come up with any evidence to suggest Rev.com is a scam. While the pay might not be very competitive in our opinion, they do pay as promised.
They also use PayPal, so that’s another indicator that the website probably isn’t a scam.
They’ve also been mentioned a number of times in authority news outlets.
So yes, the Rev.com website is legit. Rev.com can be an okay way to make money online.
But it’s not something we recommend.
The reason why is that when we weigh the pros and cons, we personally know there are much better ways to make money online.
What Do We Recommend?
Building your own online business.
An online business benefits include:
- Work from anywhere.
- Choose when to work.
- And work as hard as you want.
But, you will also be the boss of your own business and you have the potential of earning a passive income.
Which means once you get things rolling, you need to do little to no work to earn money.

Compare that with earning money as a freelancing where you will have to work for every penny that you make.
