Wondering what is the best blogging platform? Not sure where to start? Does one person recommend one platform while others recommend another?
In today’s article we’re going to take a look at some of our favorite blogging platforms.
We picked these platforms based on a few different factors.
Blogging Platform Criteria:
For one, ease of use.
It is important, especially for beginners, that a platform is easy to use.
All of our recommended picks are super easy for beginners to get started with.
Secondly, optimization.
Website’s need to be optimized in order to rank well in search engine results.
If your website does not rank, it will be hard for people to find your site and content.
Some platforms have more optimized and search-engine friendly frameworks than others.
So without further delay, lets dive into our recommending blogging platforms!
What is The Best Blogging Platform?
Undoubtedly, the most popular blogging platform is Word Press.
But there is a lot of confusion about Word Press.
There are two parts of Word Press; their official platform (similar to Blog Spot, a free online blogging platform) and the separate Word Press installation.
Then there are the website builders built with the Word Press framework.
Take a look at some of our favorites below:
Word Press-Based Blogging Platforms:
Most of the website builders build with Word Press are highly optimized and worth a look.
1. Site Rubix.
Site Rubix is the website builder I used to make this very website!
And guess what?
This site, even with all the content, is faster than 90% of website’s out there!
Website speed is one factor Google checks when ranking a site, the faster the website loads the better.
With Site Rubix, building a website is made easy, and you can have a decent website up and running in a matter of minutes.
We wrote a review of Site Rubix, click here to read it.
Best Blogging Platform for Beginners:
Site Rubix is the website builder I recommend for beginners because it is incredibly user-friendly and well optimized.
As a matter of fact, Site Rubix recently made some adjustments by adding a feature called Site Speed. This allows you to not need any type of speed, boost or compression plugins.
This site’s down to 7 plugins (2 of those are for Google Amp). That’s awesome.
Check out this sites speed performance after eliminating 3 plugins and activating Site Rubix’s site speed feature.
Using Google Page Speed insights, our mobile performance went from 69/100 to 91 and the desktop performance went from 82/100 to 93/100.
See the screen shots below.

More Cool Site Features for Bloggers:
I got to hand it to these guys, just in the last year Site Rubix added free SSL certification. Basically taking your site from a http to an https.
You have to have this certification for membership, eCommerce sites, any site where you can accept payment. GoDaddy and other website hosting platforms have this feature but it can cost anywhere from $20 – $30 per month.
It’s free with Site Rubix, plus you can host up to 25 domain names and another 25 free sites on Cloud Hosting.
Other Blogging Platforms:
Though Word Press based platforms are what I recommend you start with, there are others you can take a look at.
In most cases, the builders are not bad, but they don’t offer the same level of customization as Word Press based platforms.
With Word Press you can customize the look and functionality of your site without too much effort. Even adding eCommerce functionality can be done with a plugin.
With other platforms you have to stick to what you’re given.
Generally, I recommend Site Rubix for your main website, but the below builders are excellent for smaller projects.
1. WIX
Wix is a really simple drag-and-drop website builder and there is a free version with limited options you can try out.
In my opinion, Wix is pretty nice, but the code isn’t as optimized for speed as Word Press.
Most of these website builders offer decent website building options (plenty of themes, design options, etc) but they don’t really rank well.
2. Square Space
Square Space is very similar to Wix but it requires a monthly subscription.
Their sites can look really nice and there’s not much of a learning curve.
Most people use Square Space for small portfolio-style websites.
3. Weebly
Weebly is another website building company worth a look.
Building a site is super easy and you can use their free hosting too.
They also have some e-commerce options available for people who want to sell physical items online.
4. Blogger (formerly Blog Spot)
Blogger is Google’s official blogging platform and it works quite well.
Some blogs can rank quite well, depending on the content you write, but most people don’t think Blogger sites are professional.
The Problem With Free Blogging Platforms:
There are a couple of problems with free blogging platforms, we already talked about the level of customization, and there’s one more issue worth talking about.
The main problem is the domain name.
Most of the blogging platforms won’t provide you with your own domain name, unless you buy it.
But not everyone realizes the importance of a proper domain name (specifically, a .com) so they stick to the free options.
Usually, there is the option to pick your own domain name, but it is hosted on a sub domain.
For example, if you make a site with Wix, the address will be www.yoursitename.wix.com.
And that is not ideal for branding or search engine optimization.
This problem, of course, can be solved by buying a domain name through the platform.
Nevertheless, you still won’t be able to customize every aspect of your website.
For some people, that is not a problem, and I know quite a few people who have seen success with free blogging platforms.
In my opinion, however, it is much better to buy a .com and WordPress-based blogging platform.
It really comes down to your personal preferences as well.
But remember, its best to build a business on a solid framework, otherwise you might not make the most of your investment.

So What’s The Best Blogging Platform for You:
In my opinion, Word Press is the best blogging platform.
It is the most well-known, easy to learn, and optimized for speed and search engines.
Some people also take the route of installing Word Press blogging platform on a separate hosting account.
You buy a domain and hosting separately and then link them both.
That method is indeed very useful but it can be a bit complicated for complete beginners.
And a little more expensive as well.
If you’re a complete beginner, I recommend sticking to a simple solution.
Site Rubix is one of the simplest website builders I came across, and to my surprise, I haven’t had a reason to switch.

Thanks for taking the time to read this article about what is the best blogging platform.
I hope you can pick the right platform for your business!
Please leave a comment if you have any questions.
Until next time.
Great article comparing the different blogging platforms. WordPress is my favorite too, as it’s so easy to use and very intuitive, just like Microsoft Word!
I also love all the different plugins you can use. There’s almost one for anything you can possibly imagine needing.
I’ve also used Wix and GoDaddy to make sites, but still find WordPress the easiest to create and update in.
Thanks Mara for your feedback. WordPress is awesome but I find all the extra seo features that Site Rubix provides makes the ultimate blogging experience.
Why?
For one, as soon as a post new content, I can get extra traffic and comments using the Site Comments part of Site Rubix. That means instant social pings and extra content that search engines like Google have to index that improve my rankings.
They’ve also introduced new technology called Site Speed. I’ve eliminated 3 speed and compression plugins using this feature and my scores went up from average to great using Google’s speed test.
Quicker speed = better user experience = better rankings.
At least that’s been my experience with Site Rubix and why I feel it’s #1 blogging platform for all bloggers.
Great post! Very informational, I currently use Word Press for my blog and find it very easy to use and edit if I need to. It is also really nice to have my own domain name without anything else attached. I like how you went into detail about other platforms as well. I have looked into Weebly and Blogger before but found that Word Press has the best of all criteria.
Thanks for your feedback Mallory. I think you picked a winning blogging platform for long term success. At least that’s how I see using WordPress and more specifically… Site Rubix.
One of the best features I like about siterubix is the simplicity to use it despite lack of any formal training.
I am in love with blogging and therefore I feel that your article best suits me in many ways and the best I can do is to bookmark it for future reference and store it in my important archives.
It’s good that they have improved on their speed and efficiency such that beginners won’t need to install many plugins on their websites.
This is good news for those who love siterubix like me. I wonder if WordPress has an affiliate program whereby people can promote it and earn commission out of that?
Nice job!
Thanks for the feedback. I agree, it’s easy to make Site Rubix the go to blogging platform for newbies or seasoned bloggers.
There’s just too many benefits when you get in and really get to know the platform. They’ve got a new content writer that guides you on putting you blog posts so that they are most optimized for search engines. I haven’t used it but have heard other good things about it.
But the value is there and more. As for WP affiliate programs, not sure. Easy enough to find with a simple Google search. Just put in WordPress + Affiliate Programs and you’ll get your answer.
Hi Todd,
Great post, very detailed explanation, this really helps me to get further on my path in the blogging world.
I have a couple of short questions though.
Do you find WordPress to be a good choise to start a blog with, or do you recommend others?
How easy is it to start for a beginner?
Is it do-able for a starter to get my blog search engine optimized and ranked well in the search engines, or do you think it’s hard?
Thanks in advance for a reply.
Kind regards, Yashar Ligtermoet
Keep up the good work!!
Hi Yashar,
Great question. I strongly believe in starting with WordPress and more specifically Site Rubix.
The reason being is that Site Rubix is a sister product of the online business training center called Wealthy Affiliate.
So it comes with step by step hand holding instructions that allows the user to get used to the WordPress platform quickly.
The other great thing is the Site Rubix has a number of features built into the platform that integrates SEO right from the start.
For example, SSL certification (for Membership or sites that take online payments), weekly webinars that update you on cool things like Googles Amp Plugin to have the best user experience on mobile devices. A new Site Speed aspect that allows you to not have to have speed and compression plugins (too many plugins slow youf site down). incredible community support and structured programs that teach you white hat SEO, keyword research, proper structuring of content. You also can get site feedback and comments to your blog posts which has a very strong effect on site engagement.
All of these things are lacking with most blogging platforms and this is why I love Site Rubix.
This site is made from WP/Site Rubix and it’s a pretty decent size. I can get most of my posts to rank page 1 or 2 minutes after publishing new content.
This site currently brings in around 700 to 1,000 new visitors per day and that’s all free organic traffic (mostly from Google).
So don’t think twice about using Site Rubix to launch your blog, it will be the best decision you’ll ever make.
Thanks Todd, I’m going to check out Site Rubix right away. Those features sound awesome.
You bet Yashar, happy to help.
Hi there,
Thank you very much for the more than useful Information. I just started blogging two months ago and you can imagine that every help is more than welcome in the beginning.
I like the Reviews of the different platforms which are very well explained. I could definitely extract a lot of Info for me and my ongoing work.
I looked into some of the drag and drop builders like Wix and Weebly and wasn’t very impressed but think Word Press will do fine.
Especially with all the bonus features Site Rubix provides, very cool.
Thanks Marcel,
We appreciate the feedback. I think you’ll find Site Rubix to be of the best value after you get a little bit more into blogging, you’ll see more benefits. Especially as you focus on optimizing your site for search engines.
